Solid Wood Flat Transitions, T- Moldings, and Split T- Moldings

Solid Wood Flat Transitions, T- Moldings, and Split T-Moldings Used for Tile to Wood Transition

The Nelson Watson Solid Wood Flooring Flat Transitions and T-Molding Transitions are designed to provide a functional, durable, eye pleasing transition floor trim for flooring surfaces of equal height. Common applications include use as a tile to wood transition, tile to hardwood transition and as a tile to laminate flooring transition. Some other applications include use as a carpet to hardwood transition, carpet to vinyl transition and wood to wood transition.

The Split T-Moldings are useful as a transition floor trim against vertical surfaces such as fireplaces, cabinets, glass sliding doors and exterior doors. The Split T-Moldings can also be used as a transition floor trim piece between carpet and wood, ceramic tile or marble by tucking the carpet to the outside edge of the Split T-Molding. I have implemented this use of the Split T-Moldings around the hearth of fireplaces when the existing flooring was carpeting. The Split T-Moldings are especially handy when installing a free floating floor as well as nail down or glue down applications. The T-Moldings and Split T-Moldings have a ½″ inset (relief) which is ideal as a floating floor transition trim piece when installing floors such as laminates, engineered hardwood, and luxury vinyl flooring. The ½″ inset allows the recommended ¼” clearance which allows the flooring to expand and contract with seasonal humidity and temperature changes, preventing the floor from buckling.

As a flooring contractor before devoting my full attention to the manufacture and sales of the Nelson Watson Solid Wood Flooring Transition Moldings I often attached a wood spacer to the bottom of the Flat Transition to create the t-molding needed when the stem on my existing T-Molding was too short or too tall for the application. This application was especially valuable when installing a free floating floor next to a glued or nailed down floor. The ½” wide spacer attached to the Flat Transition and leaving a 9/16” gap between the two floors allowed me an area that I could nail or glue down the created t-molding while allowing the required ¼” needed for the free floating floor to expand and contract.
