Solid Wood Reducers

The Nelson Watson Solid Wood Flooring Transition Reducers are designed to provide a functional, durable, eye pleasing transition floor trim between two uneven flooring surfaces. The most common applications include use as a tile to wood floor transition, a carpet to tile transition and a vinyl to laminate transition. Some other applications include use as a wood to wood flooring transition, a carpet to wood floor transition trim and wood to vinyl transition. Most of the Nelson Watson Solid Wood Flooring Transition Moldings have a ½″ inset (relief) which is ideal as a floating floor transition trim piece. The ½″inset allows the recommended ¼″ clearance which allows the flooring to expand and contract with seasonal humidity and temperature changes, preventing the floor from buckling. I offer Solid Wood Flooring Transition Reducers that transcend flooring height differences that range from 1/8″ to 7/8″.

As a flooring contractor before devoting my full attention to the manufacture and sales of the Nelson Watson Solid Wood Flooring Transition Moldings I found several ways to customize the use of the line of Reducers. One of the unique qualities of the Reducer is that an offset t-molding can be created by adding a wood spacer underneath the Reducer to create the desired height difference needed to transcend the two floors. This application was especially valuable when installing a free floating floor next to a glued or nailed down floor. The ½” wide spacer attached to the reducer and leaving a 9/16” gap between the two floors allowed me an area that I could nail or glue down the created offset t-molding while allowing the required ¼” needed for the free floating floor to expand and contract. Another application that I often used especially on solid hardwood flooring was to cut off the lip of the Reducer for a flush application. This was handy because of the different thicknesses of the flooring required a modified transition trim piece that I had readily available.
